The National Arboretum Tour
In May, I had an opportunity to join the Darne Bloomers Garden Club on a tram tour of The US National Arboretum. It was a rainy day, but I was so excited to see the Arboretum for the first time, that it didn’t bother me at all. Plus, I was in good company. The Darne Bloomers Garden Club is full of interesting & dynamic ladies.
Taking the tram is a very good way to get an over-view of the 446 acres that comprise the Arboretum. It takes about 35 minutes to make the loop while you listen to a taped narrative about the Arboretum, it’s history, the collections and the research that takes place there.
I thought the tour was very interesting and I look forward to going back with my family on foot or on bike, so we can spend time in the collections and leisurely investigate each of them more closely.
On the list:
- The National Bonsai & Penjing Museum
- The Fern Valley Native Plant Collection
- The National Herb Garden
If you have never been there, it’s worth the trip. Hint: Check the website for changes in hours due to The Sequestration.
